SEAM provides material analysis service to determine thermal and mechanical properties of wide range of materials including polymers, ceramics, glasses, metals and composites.
What is Material Analysis?
Material analysis is a broad term encompassing all forms of materials testing and property analysis. This can be for numerous purposes such as to understand the source of a foreign material, to gain an understanding of material strength or durability in a given environment or load condition, to obtain characteristics for computer simulation or to reverse engineer a product.
Why you need Material Analysis?
Materials testing is a range of highly precise techniques that determine and measure the characteristics of materials, such as mechanical properties, elemental composition and the effects of heat treatment. Mechanical testing measures the strength and ductility of materials under various conditions, such as temperature, tension, compression and load. To fully characterise the properties, strengths and weaknesses of a material, it is necessary to apply a combination of both destructive testing and non-destructive testing methods. This also yields information as to the performance and durability of materials. This allows the determination that they are safe, compliant with specification and fit for purpose in their end application.
Material testing services are destructive testing methods that are categorised as mechanical, fracture toughness, fatigue, chemical, corrosion and metallurgical testing. Most material testing is performed on metals, although some services are available for composites, ceramics and polymers. The results yielded via our analysis techniques help determine whether materials and treatments meet the requirements of regulatory agencies, design engineers or business quality programmes and are suitable for their intended applications. Both large and small samples can be analysed at SEAM as it has a comprehensive range of sample preparation methods available.
SEAM’s mechanical testing services include tensile testing, impact testing and hardness testing, for both metals and polymeric materials. This allows the specific properties of a material to be determined and if necessary, used in FEA analysis of systems and structures. We also have highly specialised mechanical testing such as fatigue testing, fracture mechanics, crack metal testing, crack propagation testing, creep testing, corrosion testing and chemical analysis services using OES, EDX and other analytical techniques. We are specialised in all stages of metals processing and product development, especially in the growing field of 3D printing.
Material testing or destructive testing is often required to ensure that products and their component parts can perform for their intended use and endure for their expected life. SEAM can help you with selecting and verifying materials, trouble-shooting production problems, investigating product failures and meeting customer or industry requirements for material certification. Once the testing is complete, we interpret the test results and provide a detailed, high-quality report to the client in a clear and easy to understand format.
