Equipment & Capabilities

Our advanced CMM and metrology equipment enables highly accurate dimensional inspection, component verification and detailed measurement of complex parts.

SEAM combines precision measurement technology with experienced engineering expertise to support quality control, validation, troubleshooting and product development across a wide range of industries.

The SEAM GLOBAL Advantage coordinate measuring machine (CMM)

SEAM’s GLOBAL Scan+ adds tactile scanning to the range of possible applications. With tactile scanning, a large number of surface points are captured within a short time, enabling highly accurate form and profile measurements on functional parts.

The scanning probe can be positioned at various spatial angles, making accessing more complex workpieces easy. An accompanying styli changer rack accelerates the inspection process by enabling fast changes of styli configurations within a measuring program without restricting the available measurement volume.

    Metrology - Frequently Asked Questions

Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) inspection and dimensional metrology provide highly accurate measurement and verification of manufactured components. These techniques are used to confirm that parts meet specified dimensions, tolerances and geometric requirements, helping manufacturers improve quality, investigate production issues and validate components before full-scale production.

Below are some of the most common questions about CMM inspection and dimensional metrology.

    What is CMM inspection?

Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) inspection is a highly accurate method of measuring the physical dimensions and geometry of a component. It uses a precision probe to capture measurement points and compare them against engineering drawings, CAD models or specified tolerances.

CMM inspection can be used across a wide range of components, including machined parts, moulded components, assemblies, tooling and precision engineering parts. It is widely used in aerospace, medical devices, automotive, electronics and general manufacturing.

CMM systems are capable of extremely high levels of accuracy, often down to microns. The achievable accuracy depends on the size and geometry of the component, the measurement method and the required tolerances.

Yes. Measurement data can be compared directly with the original CAD model or engineering drawing to identify dimensional variation, tolerance issues and deviations from the intended design.

Dimensional metrology is the science of accurately measuring the size, shape and geometric characteristics of components. It is used to verify that manufactured parts meet required drawings, tolerances and quality standards.

Yes. CMM inspection is particularly useful when investigating dimensional variation, production inconsistencies, tooling issues, component failures or parts that are not meeting specification. Accurate measurement data can help identify the source of the problem and support corrective action.
