Introduction to SEAM Technology Gateway
SEAM (South Eastern Applied Materials) is an ISO 9001:2015 accredited industry-focused Applied Research and Development facility based at South East Technological University in Waterford . It provides innovative materials engineering solutions for research and industrial partners seeking assistance on materials related issues that cannot be solved by utilising their on-site resources.
SEAM is proud to be a member of the Enterprise Ireland Technology Gateways network with work 17 specialised Gateways delivering innovation expertise and solutions for Irish industry.
SEAM focuses on key technology areas, aligned to industry needs in areas such as materials characterization , engineering simulation , Industrial CT Scanning and Additive Manufacturing . SEAM works in conjunction with industry to aid the research and development of innovative products and services through a dedicated team of full-time researchers and engineers.
Aims and results
Each individual Technology Gateway acts as a bridge, or gateway, between research groups in the host institution and local companies and targets industry sectors relevant to the core capabilities of the nominated research group. SEAM Technology Gateway aims to help the companies articulate their technical issues that need to be resolved, source state or EU funding where appropriate, and ensure projects are delivered successfully.
The Technology Gateway Network, comprised of all Technology Gateways across Ireland, is leveraged to ensure an open-door policy for all potential users. In essence, a company in one region can work with a research group in another by utilizing their local Technology Gateway as the access point.
In summary, the programme will:
- Provide open access points for industry.
- Delivery close-to-market solutions for Irish industry.
- Be regionally based but with nationwide reach
- Act as regional portals to the nationwide expertise in Irish Research Infrastructure.
The SEAM Technology Gateway Programme is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the ERDF Southern, Eastern & Midland Regional Programme 2021-27
