Helping You See Inside Your Products Without Taking Them Apart
Are you struggling with product failures, hidden defects, or unclear root causes?
Do you need to verify the internal quality of a part — but don’t want to cut it open or damage it?
You’re not alone — and industrial CT scanning might be the solution you didn’t know you needed.
At SEAM, based at SETU Waterford, we operate Ireland’s most advanced industrial CT centre. Every week, we work with engineers, designers, and manufacturers to help them:
-
Spot internal defects early
-
Validate complex parts before production
-
Reverse engineer legacy components
-
Solve problems no other test method can detect
What Is Industrial CT Scanning?
CT scanning (Computed Tomography) is a non-destructive testing method that uses X-rays to create detailed 3D images of the inside of an object.
Think of it like a medical scan — but for engineered parts.
CT is ideal when you need to:
-
Check for cracks, voids, or porosity
-
Compare parts to CAD models
-
Measure wall thickness or alignment
-
Detect hidden assembly errors
-
Analyse additive or injection moulded parts
Who Should Consider CT Scanning?
You might benefit from industrial CT if you are:
-
A medtech engineer checking stents, valves, or implants
-
A toolmaker trying to verify internal geometry
-
A product developer validating a prototype
-
A quality manager looking to avoid product recalls
-
A materials scientist wanting to understand failure modes
If you’ve ever asked,
“What’s going wrong inside my part?”
— CT can help you find out without breaking it open.
Why Choose SEAM for Industrial CT?
At SEAM, we’ve gone from strength to strength — and here’s why more companies are choosing us:
1. Ireland’s Most Powerful CT System
Our Diondo 5 is the largest and most advanced industrial CT scanner in the country. It can scan parts large or small, metal or polymer — with unmatched detail.
2. Materials Expertise You Can Trust
We don’t just send you images. Our scientists and engineers interpret the results, help you understand what they mean, and advise on next steps.
3. Fast Turnaround — or Full Collaboration
Need a one-off scan for an urgent project? No problem. Want to embed CT into your R&D workflow? We’ll support you every step.
Typical Use Cases We Support
-
Verifying new part designs before launch
-
Troubleshooting product failures in the field
-
Checking internal features on 3D printed components
-
Supporting grant-funded R&D projects
-
Helping with regulatory submissions in medtech
Some Frequently Asked Questions we get asked by our clients
Q: Can you scan metal and plastic parts?
A: Yes — we work with aluminium, stainless steel, polymers, composites, and more.
Q: How big can the part be?
A: Our Diondo 5 can handle parts up to approx. 1 metre in height and heavy components and we can also CT as small as a pin head !!
Q: How long does it take to get results?
A: For urgent scans, we can deliver results in as little as 24–72 hours. More complex projects are scheduled accordingly.
Q: Do I need to know how to read the scans?
A: No — our team will explain the findings and provide a report you can act on.
