Waterford Institute of Technology’s (WIT)Telecommunications Software and Systems Group (TSSG) and the South East Applied Materials Group (SEAM) research group are two of three groups shortlisted for a Waterford Chamber Business Award under the Innovation and Technology category.
TSSG employs 120 people in Waterford and internationally, it leverages its research to support large and small companies based in Ireland with everything from research and problem solving projects to new product research and development.
Speaking about TSSG’s nomination, Barry Downes, CEO of TSSG and founder of FeedHenry commented, “Over the past three years alone, TSSG has helped over 110 companies and has created a number of important start-ups in the region including FeedHenry Ltd which has grown to employ over 40 people in the South-East. Red Hat Inc. acquired the start-up in October 2014, bringing the first global software company to the South-East region.”
SEAM, who was also shortlisted in Innovation and Technology category, has a proven track record of delivering for industry, having executed over 800 direct funded industry projects spanning across over 90 Irish based companies since its launch in 2009.
According to Dr Ramesh Raghavendra, Technology Gateway Manager and Centre Director, “We are very proud to be nominated for such a prestigious award and we can attribute the honour to SEAM’s unparalleled and unique rapid response approach in addressing the issues affecting production within manufacturing, medical devices and pharma companies. Our priority has always been to address issues with fast turn-around times so the companies we work with can reduce industry downtime costs and products reject rates which ultimately improves competitiveness.”
Speaking about the awards initiative, Waterford Chamber President Dr Derek O’Byrne said: “The Waterford Business Awards is all about showcasing entrepreneurial spirit, sharing success stories and supporting the business community in Waterford.”
The glamorous awards ceremony will take place on Friday, March 6th in Dooley’s Hotel, where some of Waterford’s top businesses will be celebrated for their extraordinary contribution to the economic life of Waterford City and County.
